The ultimate introduction to Brighton. Available for groups only, I will tailor the walk and/or coach route to include the things which will interest you most. A walk could include some of the seafront, a part of the Lanes, the exteriors of the Theatre Royal, the Sealife Centre, the Royal Pavilion and its gardens, and possibly the old parish church of St Nicholas and graveyard. It depends how much time you have available, the age and interest of the group and even how long you are staying in Brighton.
If you have booked a coach, the walk can be combined with a tour to cover a wider area, and I will give an on board commentary.
The tour will explain how Brighton grew from a small fishing community into the vibrant city of today, and the part the Prince Regent, later George IV played in all this. Why did Brighton have the first pier ever built in Britain? What happened to it? Who is the Lord of the manor of Brighton? Why did Dr Richard Russell recommend the use of crabs eyes and woodlice as part of his "seawater cure"? At the former fishmarket site there will be stories of the fishermen and how they sold their catch and maybe you'd like to visit the Fishing museum. Outside the fantastic former palace, the Royal Pavilion, you'll hear about Prinny, Brighton's own Prince Regent and how he created such an individual masterpiece with England's top architects. If you're going inside later, you'll know the things to look out for and where the 'tricks of the eye' are located. Whatever your plans for the rest of your stay in Brighton, a guided tour is an excellent way to start.
